Reflectivity of Fuyang radar is corrected with an equipment
(Disdrometer) to measure rain drop size distribution and TRMM
(Tropical Rain Measurement Mission) precipitation radar data
for the period of intensive field experiments during the
GAME/HUBEX (GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment / Huaihe River Basin
Experiment) in China in 1998. Fuyang radar, which has observation
range of 250 km covering triple Doppler radar observation areas and
intensive surface observation network, showed intermittent fluctuation
of reflectivity during the observation period. Bias of reflectivity
in Fuyang radar was estimated to be 2 dBZ by comparison with
Disdrometer and level 1C21 data of TRMM precipitation radar.
By checking the echo power, bad data of echo power was eliminated
and variation of echo power is corrected properly. In this correction
process, attenuation of reflectivity is corrected after the estimation
echo power bias. These procedures made the Fuyang radar possible to
estimate the rainfall amount in the radar observation range for the
HUBEX cases. Daily rainfall amount of rainfall estimated with Fuyang
radar showed good agreement with surface rainfalls measured with
surface raingauges. Corrected Fuyang radar reflectivity with wide
coverage and high temporal resolution revealed the sharp contrast
of precipitation in the north and south of the precipitation system
along the Meiyu front. Now grid data of Fuyang radar reflectivity
is available for general use.
