One of the goals of KORMEX (KORea Monsoon EXperiment) is to produce the essential data sets of various scales of disturbances related to Changma and the assimilated data over the interested areas. KMA and METRI had the successful KORMEX Intensive Observation Period (IOP)
from 1998 to 1999, and all observation data have been collected in cooperation of KMA, METRI,universities and other institutes.
We made an assimilated dataset using all of the enhanced observation data in Korea and available data around Korea in the period of KORMEX-IOP. Korea Local Analysis and Prediction System (KLAPS), stemmed from LAPS of FSL (Forecast Systems Laboratory) in U.S., is adopted
to produce a high-resolution analysis data using GAME reanalysis ver. 1.0 data as the first guess.
There are four main components in KLAPS: data collection, analysis, prediction and visualization. In situ observation data from most of the KORMEX-IOP data sources (GTS, GMS, radar, intensive rawinsonde etc) are converted to NetCDF format and also interpolated to KLAPS grids using
Barnes scheme or cubic spline fit. KLAPS consists of 8 analysis processes including surface, temperature, wind, humidity, cloud, cloud-driven variables, precipitation, and soil. The prediction
component of LAPS is now connected to some of numerical models (MM5, ARPS, RAMS, WRF). Finally the analysis and forecast output are displayed by NCAR graphic software.
In the end we produce a dataset of 220¡¿220 horizontal grids with 10km horizontal resolution,
and 50hPa vertical grid from 1100hPa up to 100hPa in the domain centered at 36.0N and 126.5E during KORMEX-IOP (1 June ¡ 30 July 1998 and 1999).
